The Gwinnett Choral Guild
Sep. 1st, 2009 10:12 pmI posted a little bit ago about possibly joining the Gwinnett Choral Guild. They require you to attend three rehearsals as a visitor before deciding if you definitely want to join. Yesterday was my third rehearsal. (It would have been last week, but I was sick and didn't go.) I've decided I want to join, and I have a vocal interview a week from Monday. We're not meeting this Monday due to Labor Day. They have stressed that the vocal interview is not an audition. It's simply a way for the director to get to know a singer's vocal ability and musical knowledge. I'm not too nervous, but I'm a bit worried they'll ask me to sight read. Despite having been in a choir for most of my life I'm terrible at sight reading. However I make up for that by having a good ear. I can sing something I've never heard or sung before as long as I have the music in front of me and a person (or two or three) singing near me who knows the piece. My performance won't be perfect by any means, but it will be passable. At any rate, I think the vocal interview will be okay. Not everyone is a sight reader. I can also tell that my range has shrunk from not singing with a choir for over a year. I'm sure it'll come back though. It has in the past! All in all I'm just happy to be part of a choir again.
