1. Do you prefer to read hardcover or paperback books? Hardcover or larger sized paperbacks? Borrow?
If I'm just reading something I don't care if it's hardback or not. If I'm buying then I prefer paperback because it's cheaper. As for borrowing, it's not something I did often until I started working at the library. I think I have 7 books out now though. And 1 magazine. There are a couple authors/series I will continue to buy though.
2. Do you have a favorite place to read in your home?
On the couch or in bed. It's even better if Lyric and/or Lyre decide to join me. :D
3. Do you have a favorite place to read away from, or outside of, your home?
I guess in the break room at work? That's really the only place I read outside my home.
4. Do you snack while you read?
If I'm hungry.
5. Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
The idea bothers me, but I do have a couple marked books. Back in 2002 I was reading my dad's copies of Lord of the Rings, and I saw that he had marked in them. After that I started marking in mine, but soon decided I preferred not to mark up my books.
6. How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
If I'm only putting the book down for a minute or two I'll lay the book face down and open. If I'm closing it for a longer time I use a bookmark which can be anything (receipt, random paper, note card, actual bookmark, food wrapper, etc.)
7. Fiction, non-fiction, or both?
Both, although I tend to prefer fiction.
8. Hardcopy or audiobooks?
Hardcopy, hardcopy, hardcopy! I like holding a book in my hands. I once bought a used audiobook to listen to while driving from TN to PA, and I never listened to it. I prefer music while I drive.
9. Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
End of chapters are nice, but I can put the book down anytime.
10. If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? Write it down to look it up later? Just try to infer what it means from the rest of the sentence, and keep going?
Honestly I don't come across unfamiliar words too often. When I do though I don't look them up unless I can't get any sort of meaning from context. The one exception is if I'm reading in French. Then I tend to look up unknown words.
11. What are you currently reading?
The Silver Gryphon by Mercedes Lackey, A Mercy by Toni Morrison, and What on Earth Happened? by Christopher Lloyd. Yes, I do read more than one book at a time. Why do you ask?
12. What is the last book you bought?
Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World. I was going to get it from the library, but it sounded so cute I couldn't wait!
13. What is your all time favorite book?
*brain explodes* I cannot pick just one. It's impossible.
14. Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can read more than one at a time?
See answer for number 11.
15. Do you like re-reading books?
Oh yeah!! That's why I never liked checking books out; I wanted to have them available for rereading. I reread all the time.
BONUS: Are there certain themes/ideas/qualities you tend to be drawn to in books?
Some. I'm drawn to books about France or that take place in France. I'm also drawn to books about cats. Otherwise it's just if the story sounds good, especially if it's sci-fi or fantasy.
