Poor Kitty!
Feb. 3rd, 2009 01:50 pmLast night when I got home from work (around 9:45) I saw my headlights pass over a cat as I was about to pull into a parking space. There's an orange and white cat that lives in the apartment below me, so I wasn't concerned. However once I got out of the car I heard some meowing. Since I have never heard the other cat meow I thought he might be hurt and went to investigate. I held out my hand and, to my surprise, what came towards me was not a full grown orange and white cat but a gray kitten! I picked him up, and he immediately started purring in my arms. I put him back down again thinking he'd run home, but instead me rubbed against my ankles and continued purring. I hesitated a couple minutes, but ultimately I knew I couldn't leave him/her (didn't check) outside. It went down to 25 last night! I took him into my apartment and locked him in the bathroom along with food, water, and a litter box. Lyric and Lyre sniffed my coat and the bathroom door a lot, but luckily didn't hiss or growl. They're not thrilled with having another cat in the house though. And the kitten is not thrilled with being locked in the bathroom. I can't let him interact with Lyric and Lyre though. He could have fleas, ear mites, worms, FHIV, or any number of other things they could catch. I'm going to put up signs today and hope his owner (who I will then give a piece of my mind about leaving their cat outside) claims him. Otherwise I will have to find someone to adopt him (no luck there so far), or take him to the Atlanta Humane Society. They were the only shelter out of about 10 I called that had any room. I know I don't have room for a third cat, but boy am I going to miss him!
