Thanksgiving
Dec. 1st, 2008 05:58 pmMy Thanksgiving break was nice. Even though I'm not in school anymore I still had enough time off work to go home to PA for a few days. I flew home Wednesday, and mom and dad picked me up from the airport. We stopped at the supermarket on the way home to pick up a few things, then generally relaxed the rest of the night. We watched some Get Smart since dad asked me to bring my DVDs home with me. (For anyone who doesn't know, watching Get Smart is something my dad and I have been doing since I was in 4th grade. We've seen every episode and can quote the vast majority of them.) The one thing that bothered me on Wednesday was when I picked up Carmen. ( The reason why is under the cut. )
Walt got home after midnight, so he slept most of Thursday morning. Dad went back to the supermarket because we had forgotten a few things the night before. While he was gone mom and I cooked. I made the stuffing and the green beans while mom did the turkey and mashed potatoes. Later, after dad got back but before dinner, Walt, dad, and I took a walk around part of our property. Dad owns a lot so this walk lasted over an hour, and we still didn't cover everything! I took my camera and got some nice photos which will be posted later. It was nice to walk around and look at plants and trees. We also went inside the old house on our property. It was built (we think) in the 50's, and no one's lived in it for a while. It's literally falling apart. After the walk the turkey was done, so we set the table and sat down to Thanksgiving dinner. There was salad, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, turkey, cranberry sauce, and bread. We were all stuffed. There was also pumpkin pie for dessert, but no one wanted any of that for about three hours after eating. After giving dinner a bit of time to digest and cleaning up the kitchen Walt, dad, and I took another walk, this time up to the top of a hill. I took more pictures. Back in the house we finally felt ready for pie and watched "A Christmas Story". Dad recently it for the first time and loved it. I saw it for the first time too. Walt had to leave that evening because he had to work on black Friday.
Friday I slept in some, and spent the morning and early afternoon hanging around the house with mom and dad. We watched some TV and Get Smart and ate leftovers. Around 3:00 I left to meet
andiyana in York. We met at Borders then went to Mexitaly to eat. It was yummy. Next we went to her house, and she gave me my birthday present and I saw Zoey (her cat). We didn't stay long. Next we headed to the Depot to see a Kingfoil show, but that didn't work out. The show was supposed to start at 8:00, but we got turned around driving and didn't get there until 8:30. We were afraid we'd missed them, but no one actually played anything until 9:30. And then, it still wasn't Kingsfoil but someone else.
andiyana drove me back to my car (we'd been carpooling) and 10:00 because I was getting tired. She headed back to the Depot to retrieve her coat and caught Kingsfoil's last song. I'm sorry I missed them, but I was tired.
I slept in Saturday, and then spent the day with my parents since it was my last day. I took another walk with my dad, this time both on and off our property. I got some nice photos of birds. We watched some more Get Smart and talked about things. At 6:30 I turned on the UT-Kentucky game. Dad took a nap and watched after halftime. UT won 28-10, woo! It was nice that UT won, and it was also Phillip Fulmer's last game as head coach. I thought it was nice to send him out on a win. After the game ended dad, mom, and I watched the end of Naked Gun 33 1/3. I was impressed that dad stayed awake until 11:00. Finally we all went to bed.
Sunday I only had time to pack up, and say goodbye to Carmen before we had to leave for the airport. I sat in the food court with mom and dad as long as I could before I had to go through security. Dad followed me right up to the place where they check your ID and boarding pass. He's going to miss me. A lot. I miss him and mom too, but not that badly. All in all it was nice to be home and see mom, dad, Walt, and Carmen. I'm looking forward to going back for Christmas.
