Cat Worries
May. 7th, 2008 09:20 pmI'm not worried about the kittens I'm picking up on Tuesday but about Carmen, my kitty in PA. Mom took her to the vet for her shots today, and the vet said she looked a bit dehydrated, and was worried about her kidneys. We keep a bowl of water sitting out for Carmen and clean it daily, so she shouldn't be thirsty. She had also lost half a pound which is worrying because we feed her practically as much as she can eat. Mom and dad are going to take her in for some tests in a week or two to find out what (if anything) is wrong. After that we'll have to make a decision. We've had experiences with our past cats where treating them for something was very unpleasant for the cat, and how do you explain to the kitty that what you're doing is for her own good? Dad isn't sure he wants to put Carmen through something she'll hate. I highly doubt there's anything I can do from Georgia, but mom and dad promised to keep me updated.
Still, we may be jumping the gun. According to mom and dad she doesn't act sick. She runs around and jumps at birds outside the windows. She curls up on dad's lap in the evening, and doesn't seem to be sleeping more than average (for a cat). On the other hand Carmen is 13; she's not young anymore. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens.
