Assessing My New Apartment
Jan. 21st, 2008 04:38 pmI'm as unpacked as I'm going to get. I will not unpack everything because I have no idea where or when I'll get a job. I could leave as soon as my 3 month lease is up, or I could end up staying longer. At any rate, now that I've been here a week I've been thinking about how I feel about my new place. In general, I like it. For more specifics, see below.
Things I love:
- There is lots of storage including an attic. This is a small complex (less than 100
units), and it's all one story. So there's no one above or below me. Plus I have an attic! :)
- I have a garbage disposal. I missed that at my old place; they're so convenient.
- My couch and bed are SO much more comfortable than my old couch and bed.
- Panera Bread is not right around the corner. Between their prices and that fact that I looked up their nutrition info online, that place was dangerous.
- Borders IS right around the corner. That could also be dangerous, but I also really like the idea that I can get there easily.
Things that will take some getting used to:
- I apparently used to buy lots of Kroger brand stuff. Shopping at Kroger is now out of my way. I found myself looking for things in Food City today that just aren't there. I like Food City in general, but there are one or two Kroger things I may have to start getting on my way home from work when it's not out of my way.
- It takes longer to get to work. Not too much longer, but enough that I have to consciously leave earlier than I used to.
- I have to put quarters in the washers and driers. At Sutherland, since it was UT housing, I could use my Volcard. Granted, it was still my money on the Volcard, but it was easier to not think so much about the cost when all I had to do was swipe a card. Plus laundry here is double the cost. :(
- I can have pets in this apartment, but I should REALLY wait until I'm someplace more permenant to get a cat. I really, really want a cat though...
Finally, for anyone who's interested there are some photos of my new place ( under the cut. )
