I'm Torn

I just read this article about a Harry Potter theme park that's going to open as part of Universal in Orlando. The planned opening is in 2009, and I'm not sure how I feel. On one hand, I understand that people in this world are usually out to make money. Harry Potter has been so successful, of course people are going to take any opportunity they can to make money from it; that's capitalism. On the other hand I kind of feel as though they're... what's the word I want here... not ruining, but almost... cheapening the books I (and millions of others) fell in love with. It started out as a simple story that people absolutely loved. All of a sudden there's movies, Harry Potter themed merchandise everywhere you turn, and now a theme park. Yet, I can't even pretend that I'm completely outraged about this without being a complete hypocrite. I certainly enjoy the movies, and I own some of the merchandise. In fact my first two immediate thoughts upon hearing about this theme park were, "They're going to build a theme park?! No!" and "I'm going to want to visit that!" And I swear those two thoughts occurred almost simultaneously. So I'm really not sure out I feel. One third upset, one third excited, and one third a hypocrite over the third that's upset. It's an annoying (not to mention confusing) mix of feelings. You'd think that since I'm a Disney fan I would have accepted theme park and capitalism as facts of life long ago.
